Location and Infrastructure
The City of Miami Gardens was incorporated on May 13, 2003, as the 33rd City in Miami-Dade County. At a population of approximately 113,000, it is the third largest City in Miami-Dade County. The City is located in North-Central region of the county, mid-way between Fort Lauderdale and Miami, and is easily accessed by I-95, the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826) and the Florida Turnpike.
The City is also transected by major arteries such as NW 27th Avenue, State Road 441 and Miami Gardens Drive which form the backbone of the major business corridors and development in the City.

The City of Miami Gardens operates three (3) free community trolleys covering the eastern and western boundaries of the City that allows passengers to shop, visit and travel within the area. The system links major destinations, businesses and neighborhoods while also connecting to Miami-Dade Transit.
St. Thomas University
The City of Miami Gardens is home to two (2) private higher educational institutions, one of which is St. Thomas University. St. Thomas University is a private, nonprofit, Catholic university in Miami Gardens offering twenty-four (24) Undergraduate Majors, twenty-one (21) Graduate Majors, seven (7) Doctoral Programs and one (1) Professional Program (Law) in four (4) colleges: Gus Machado College of Business; College of Science, Technology, Engineering & Health; Biscayne College and College of Law. St. Thomas University promotes an environment that is overflowing with diversity, rich in tradition, and ripe with opportunity.
Florida Memorial University
The City of Miami Gardens is home to two (2) private higher educational institutions, one of which is Florida Memorial University, the only historically black university in southern Florida. Florida Memorial University is a private, Baptist-affiliated institution that has the distinction of being one of the oldest academic centers in the state. The mission of the university is to instill in students the importance of becoming global citizens through life-long learning, leadership, character, and service, which will enhance their lives and the lives of others. Florida Memorial University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate, masters, and education specialist degrees.
